Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I reviled a Muslim man by mentioning his mother from the Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic era). The man complained about me to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is a branch of disbelief in you." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned disbelief, my legs began to tremble, and I said: "O Messenger of Allah! By the One who sent you with the truth, I will never revile a Muslim after this."
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains Ya'qub bin Muhammad al-Zuhri, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy) and the majority declared da'if (weak). The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
