بَابُ لَا فَضْلَ لِأَحَدٍ عَلَى أَحَدٍ إِلَّا بِالتَّقْوَى
No one has superiority over another except by piety

وَعَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ قَالَ : سَمِعَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ رَجُلًا يَقُولُ : أَنَا أَوْلَى النَّاسِ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ . فَقَالَ : غَيْرُكَ أَوْلَى بِهِ مِنْكَ ، وَلَكَ نَسَبُهُ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ عَنْ شَيْخِهِ الْمِقْدَامِ بْنِ دَاوُدَ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .

Humayd bin Abd al-Rahman bin Awf narrates: Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) heard a man saying, "I am the closest of people to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." So Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Others are closer to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) than you, though you do have the honour of a lineage connection with him (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it from his teacher al-Miqdam bin Dawud, who is da'if (weak).
