Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A rooster crowed near the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and a man reviled it, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade reviling the rooster.
Al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani recorded it, but he recorded these words: "Do not curse it and do not revile it, for it calls to the prayer." The chain of al-Bazzar contains a narrator, Muslim bin Khalid al-Zanji, whom Ibn Hibban and others declared thiqah (trustworthy); there is weakness in him. The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
