Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 13022

Sayyiduna Iyad bin Himar (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When two people revile each other, the sin falls on the one who started it, as long as the wronged one does not transgress. Two people who revile each other are two devils, lying against each other and making false claims against each other."
