Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 12953

Sayyiduna Umayr bin Habib bin Khumashah (may Allah be pleased with him), who lived in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at the age of puberty, advised his son, saying: "O my son, beware of sitting in the company of fools, for their company is a disease. Whoever shows forbearance towards a fool will be happy, whoever answers him back will regret it, and whoever is not content with a little of what comes from the fool will have to be content with a lot." (The narrator says:) Then he mentioned the full narration.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
