Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 12894

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hanzalah bin Hidhyam (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) liked to call a man by the name that was most beloved to him, or by the kunyah that was most beloved to him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Further on, other hadiths will come concerning what keeps affection pure, if Allah wills.
