Sayyiduna Muhammad bin Fadalah al-Zafari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah, I was two weeks old. I was brought to him, and he passed his hand over my head and said: "Name him according to my name, but do not give him a kunyah according to my kunyah." The narrator says: My father took me with him on the Farewell Hajj, and at that time I was ten years old. The narrator says: Sayyiduna Muhammad bin Fadalah (may Allah be pleased with him) lived a long life, until the hair of his head turned white, but the hair did not turn white at the spot where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had placed his blessed hand.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ya'qub bin Muhammad al-Zuhri, whom Ibn Hibban and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), while a group declared him da'if (weak). The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
