Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 12814

Abu Suwayd al-Abdi narrates: We came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and sat at his door so that we might be given permission. He delayed giving us permission, so I got up, went to a gap in the door and began to peep inside. He became aware of me. When he gave us permission and we sat down, he said: "Which of you peeped into my house a little while ago?" I said: "I did." He said: "On what basis did you consider it permissible to peep into my house?" I replied: "You delayed with us, so I was looking; I did not do it deliberately." The narrator says: Then the people asked him about some matters. I said: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman, what do you say about jihad?" He said: "Whoever strives in jihad strives only for his own self."
Imam Ahmad recorded it, and I do not know the two narrators Abu al-Aswad and Barakah bin Ya'la al-Tamimi.
