Sayyiduna Abu Basrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In the morning we will go to the Jews, so do not initiate the salam with them. If they greet you with salam, say to them in reply: 'Wa alaykum (And upon you).'"
Imam Ahmad and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it, and he added these words: "When we came to them and they greeted us with salam, we said: 'Wa alaykum.'" One of the two chains of Imam Ahmad, and that of Imam al-Tabarani, have narrators who are the narrators of the Sahih.
