Al-Qasim says: A complaint about the Euphrates was made to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). The people said: "We fear that it will bring a flood upon us. It would be appropriate if you sent someone to it to dam it." He said: "I will not dam it. By Allah! A time will come upon the people when, if you were to search for a basinful of water, you would not find it. Every water will return to its source, and the water will be there, and (at that time) the Muslims will be in Syria (al-Sham)."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except that al-Qasim did not meet Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him).
