قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : " لَا تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ حَتَّى يَكُونَ السَّلَامُ عَلَى الْمَعْرِفَةِ " ، وَإِنَّ هَذَا عَرَفَنِي مِنْ بَيْنِكُمْ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيَّ ، " وَحَتَّى تُتَّخَذَ الْمَسَاجِدُ طُرُقًا فَلَا يُسْجَدُ لِلَّهِ فِيهَا ، وَحَتَّى يَبْعَثَ الْغُلَامُ الشَّيْخَ بَرِيدًا بَيْنَ الْأُفُقَيْنِ ، وَحَتَّى يَبْلُغَ التَّاجِرُ بَيْنَ الْأُفُقَيْنِ فَلَا يَجِدُ رِبْحًا " .
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this report, but he recorded these words: The narrator says: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The Hour will not be established until the greeting of peace is given only to acquaintances. This man, out of all of you, recognised only me, so he greeted me. (The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said:) The mosques will be taken as thoroughfares, and no prostration will be made to Allah Almighty in them, until a boy will send an old man as a courier to distant lands, and until a merchant will reach distant regions but will find no profit."
