Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 12457

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: "O people! Obedience (to the ruler of the time) and staying with the community are obligatory upon you, for it is the rope of Allah that He has commanded. What you dislike within the community is better than what you like in separation. For Allah Almighty has not created anything without appointing for it a final limit at which it ends. When Islam came, it had firmness, and it will soon reach its final limit; it will keep decreasing and increasing until the Day of Resurrection. Its sign is that poverty will become abundant and provision will be cut off, until the poor person will not find anyone who can give him something, until the well-off person will think that what he has is not sufficient for him, until a man will complain of his poverty to his brother or his cousin and he will give him nothing, until a beggar will go about for a whole week and nothing will be placed in his hand. When such a situation comes about, the earth will rumble with a great rumbling, so that the people of every open space will think it has rumbled only in their own space; then it will be calm for them for as long as Allah wills; then the earth will suddenly vomit out the pieces of its liver." It was said: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman, what is meant by the pieces of the earth's liver?" He said: "Pillars of gold and silver; and from that time until the Day of Resurrection no one will be able to benefit from gold or silver."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it with various chains. Its chain contains a narrator, Mujalid, who has been declared trustworthy, though there is a difference of opinion about him. The remaining narrators of one of its routes are thiqat (trustworthy).
