Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 12417

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Soon a man from Banu Umayyah will become a ruler in Egypt; then his rule will be overpowered, or his rule will be taken away from him. Then he will flee to the Romans, and then he will bring the Romans against the people of Islam, and that will be the beginning of the great battles."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. The student of Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) is Abu al-Najm, and I do not know him; and it contains the narrator Ibn Lahi'ah, in whom there is weakness.
