Sayyiduna Mukhawwal al-Bahzi al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I set up a net at a place called al-Abwa, and a young deer was caught in one of its ropes. Then it escaped from there, and I went after it and found another man who had already caught it. We disagreed about it, and then we came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this matter. We found that he had made camp under a tree at al-Abwa and had made shade for himself with a piece of leather. We presented our case before him, and he ruled that it would be divided between us in two halves. I submitted: "O Messenger of Allah! We come across camels that have milk in them, and they are musarrah (with their udders tied), and we are also in need." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Call out to the owner of the camels three times. If he comes, well and good; otherwise untie its udder-bag and drink the milk, then tie it back up, and leave some milk for the owners of the camels as well." I submitted: "O Messenger of Allah! Sometimes stray animals come to us; if we give them water to drink, will there be a reward for it?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes! There is a reward for (doing good to) every living creature." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began talking with us and said: "Soon a time will come upon people in which the best wealth will be goats that are between the two Mosques; they will eat from the trees and reach the water. Their owner will eat their meat, drink their milk and wear clothing made of their wool (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) of their hair. And tribulations will be roaming about in the dwelling places of the Arabs. By Allah! You people will not care." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times. I submitted: "O Messenger of Allah! Give me advice." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Establish the prayer, give zakah, fast in Ramadan, perform Hajj of the House of Allah and Umrah, treat your parents well, treat your relatives well, honour the guest, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and stay with the truth wherever it may be."
Abu Ya'la recorded this narration, and al-Tabarani recorded it in abridged form in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. The chain of Abu Ya'la contains Muhammad bin Sulayman bin Masmul, who is da'if (weak), and the chain of al-Tabarani contains Sulayman bin Dawud al-Shadhakuni, who is da'if (weak).
