Majma al-Zawaid 12312 — The sanctity of the blood and wealth

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: A person continues to remain in latitude with regard to his religion as long as he has not committed an unlawful killing. When he commits an unlawful killing, modesty is taken away from him.
