Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked: What is meant by performing ablution thoroughly? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him no answer until the time of prayer came. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for water. He (peace and blessings be upon him) washed both hands, put water in his nose, rinsed his mouth, washed his face three times, washed both arms three times each, wiped his head, washed both feet three times each, and then sprinkled water beneath his garment and said: This is performing ablution thoroughly.
Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar recorded it. The narrations of the narrator Abu Ma'shar on heart-softening topics (riqaq), military expeditions (maghazi) and the virtues of deeds are written down, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
