بَابُ كَيْفَ يَفْعَلُ مَنْ بَقِيَ فِي حُثَالَةٍ .
What one who remains among the dregs of people should do

وَعَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ قَالَ : خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَوْمًا وَنَحْنُ فِي مَجْلِسِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ وَابْنَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ : " تَرَوْنَ إِذَا أُخِّرْتُمْ إِلَى زَمَانِ حُثَالَةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَدْ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَنُذُورُهُمْ فَاشْتَبَكُوا وَكَانُوا هَكَذَا ؟ " وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ . قَالُوا : اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ . قَالَ : " تَأْخُذُونَ مَا تَعْرِفُونَ ، وَتَدَعُونَ مَا تُنْكِرُونَ ، وَيُقْبِلُ أَحَدُكُمْ عَلَى خَاصَّةِ نَفْسِهِ ، وَيَذَرُ أَمْرَ الْعَامَّةِ " .
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us while we were sitting in the gathering of Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) and his two sons. He said: What do you think, if you are left until a time when only the dregs of people remain, whose covenants and vows have become mixed up and entangled with one another, and they have become like this? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this while interlacing his fingers. The people said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take what you recognise as good, abandon what seems munkar (evil) to you, let each one of you take particular care of himself, and leave the general affairs of the people (to their condition)."
