Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This religion has an advance and a retreat. Behold! Part of the advance of this religion is that an entire tribe will acquire understanding of the religion, until only one or two sinners remain among them, both of them lowly; and if those two speak, they will speak suppressed and under compulsion. And part of the retreat of this religion is that the entire tribe will be harsh, with only one or two scholars among them, and both of them will be lowly; if they speak, they will speak suppressed and under compulsion. And the last part of this Ummah will curse its first. Behold! The curse will become due upon them, until they drink wine openly, and until a woman passes by a group of people and one of them gets up, goes to her and lifts the hem of her garment just as one lifts the tail of a ewe. If on that day someone says: 'Take her behind this wall,' then at that time his example among them will be like that of Abu Bakr and Umar among you. At that time, whoever enjoins good and forbids evil will receive the reward of fifty of those who saw me, believed in me, obeyed me and pledged allegiance to me."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Ali bin Yazid, who is matruk (abandoned).
