Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among the Children of Israel before you, when someone committed a wrong, someone would forbid him by way of reproach; but the next day the one who had forbidden him would sit with him and eat and drink with him, as though he had not seen him doing wrong the day before. When Allah Almighty saw this state of theirs, He made their hearts like one another, and cursed them on the tongue of Sayyiduna Dawud (peace be upon him) and Sayyiduna Isa bin Maryam (peace be upon him); that was because they disobeyed and transgressed. By the One in whose hand is my soul, you will surely enjoin good and forbid evil, and you will surely seize the hand of the wrongdoer and compel him to follow the truth, or else Allah Almighty will make your hearts alike and will curse you just as He cursed them."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
