Kathir bin al-Salt narrates: On the day on which Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was martyred, it so happened that Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) fell asleep; this was on a Friday. When he woke up, he said: Were it not for the fear that people would say that Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) is longing for death, I would have told you something. The narrator says: We said: Tell us, may Allah Almighty keep you well; we will not say as the people say. He said: I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a dream, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You are to join us for the Friday (prayer).
Abu Ya'la recorded it in al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Abu Alqamah, the freed slave of Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him); I do not know him, and the remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
