Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said about a man: "He is of the people of Hell." The people began waiting to see what would become of him. When the Battle of Hunayn came, that man fought fiercely. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was told about it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is of the people of Hell." Then the man went out, took an arrow from his quiver and killed himself with it. The people said: "O Messenger of Allah, Allah Almighty has shown your word to be true." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stand up and announce that none but a believer will enter Paradise, and that Allah Almighty sometimes supports this religion even through a sinful man."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Muhammad bin Khalid al-Wasiti, whom Ibn Hibban mentioned in Kitab al-Thiqat, and he makes mistakes and narrates contrary to others. Yahya bin Ma'in said: he is a wicked liar. He also recorded
this report with another chain, which contains a group of narrators whom I do not know.
