Sayyiduna al-Urs bin Amirah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "A person does the deeds of the people of Hell for a long time; then one of the roads of Paradise presents itself to him, and he acts upon it until he dies in that state. That is because of what was written for him. And a person does the deeds of the people of Paradise for a long period of his life; then one of the roads of the people of Hell presents itself to him, and he acts upon it until he dies in that state. That is because of what was written for him."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and their narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
