Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed Allah Almighty took the covenant from (the people in) the back of Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) at the place of Na'man, on the day of Arafah. Allah Almighty brought out from his loins all of his offspring and spread them out before Him, then spoke with them face to face and said: 'Am I not your Lord?' They said: 'Yes indeed, we bear witness to it.' (The Lord said:) 'Lest you say on the Day of Resurrection: We were unaware of this; or lest you say: Our forefathers committed shirk before, and we were their offspring who came after them; will You then destroy us for what the people of falsehood did?'"
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. A narration of this kind from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) has already passed in the commentary on Surah al-A'raf.
