Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A Bedouin came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! How is ablution to be performed? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called for water for ablution. He (peace and blessings be upon him) washed his hand three times, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) put his right hand into the vessel, rinsed his mouth and put water into his nose three times, and washed his face and both his arms three times. He wiped his head, and along with the head he also wiped the outer part of both his ears. Then he washed both his feet three times. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is how ablution is to be done; whoever does more than this has transgressed and done wrong."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. From this Companion there is a different hadith in the Sahih. Its chain contains a narrator, Suwayd bin Abd al-Aziz, whom Ahmad, Yahya bin Ma'in and a group declared da'if (weak), while Duhaym declared him thiqah (trustworthy).
