It is narrated from Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik al-Ashja'i (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever recites even a single letter of the Noble Qur'an, a good deed is written for him. And I do not say that "Alif Lam Mim, that is the Book" is one whole letter; rather "Alif" is a letter, "Lam" is a letter, "Mim" is a letter, "Dhal" is a letter and "Kaf" is a letter.
(Imam al-Tabarani (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and Imam al-Bazzar (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it; its chain contains a narrator, Musa bin Ubaydah al-Rabadhi, who is da'if (weak).)
