Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Surah al-Ikhlas is equal to one third of the Qur'an, and Surah al-Kafirun is equal to one quarter of the Qur'an." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite these two in the two rak'ahs (Sunnah) of Fajr, and he would say: "These two rak'ahs are such that the desire of all time lies in them." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: al-Tirmidhi recorded from it only the part about reciting these two (surahs) in the two rak'ahs (Sunnah) of Fajr.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Ubaydullah bin Zahr, whom a group declared thiqah (trustworthy), and there is weakness in him.
