Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11405

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: The Jews used to say to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Sam 'alaykum" (that is, death be upon you). Then they would say within themselves: 'Why does Allah Almighty not punish us for what we say?' So this verse was revealed about it (Allah Almighty says): "And when they come to you, they greet you with (improper) words with which Allah Almighty has not greeted you." This is to the end of the verse.
Ahmad, al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is jayyid (good), because Hammad heard from Ata bin al-Sa'ib while he was in a sound state.
