Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The wind that Allah Almighty sent upon the people of Ad was only as much as the space of a ring. Allah Almighty sent that wind upon them; it lifted the desert people and brought them towards the town. When the town people saw it, they said: 'This looks like a cloud that will bring us rain, coming towards our valleys.' The desert people were inside that wind, and that wind threw the desert people down upon the town people until they were destroyed." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That wind defied its keeper angels, until it came out from between the gates.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains the narrator Muslim al-Mula'i, who is da'if (weak).
