Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11359

Abu Jabirah bin al-Dahhak narrates from his paternal uncles: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Madinah, and at that time every one of us had one or two nicknames (that is, bad names). When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called someone by his nickname, we would say: "O Messenger of Allah! He dislikes it." So Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "Do not insult one another with nicknames"
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
This narration is mentioned in the "Sunan" as a narration from Sayyiduna Abu Jabirah (may Allah be pleased with him) himself, and here it is from him, from his paternal uncles.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
