Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11333

Al-Dahhak narrates: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) took silver from the public treasury (Bayt al-Mal) and melted it, then sent for the people of the mosque and said: "Whoever wishes to see 'al-muhl' (molten metal), let him look at this."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Yahya al-Himmani, who is da'if (weak).
