Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My Ummah will be of three kinds. One third will enter Paradise without any reckoning; one third will be given an easy reckoning, then they will enter Paradise; and one third will be those who are scrutinised and examined. Then the angels will come and say: 'We found these people saying that there is no god but Allah Almighty, He alone is God.' Allah Almighty will say: 'They have spoken the truth; there is no god but Me. Admit them into Paradise' - this will be because of their saying that there is no god but Allah Almighty, He alone is God - 'and place their sins upon those who denied.' (The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) This is what Allah Almighty mentioned in these words: 'And they will surely carry their own burdens and other burdens along with their own burdens.' And its confirmation is in the passage in which the angels are mentioned, in which Allah Almighty said: 'Then We made heirs to the Book those whom We had chosen from among Our servants.' So Allah Almighty will make them into three groups, and these groups will be: 'Some of them wrong themselves' - this is the kind who will be scrutinised and examined; 'and some of them follow a middle course' - these are the ones who will be given an easy reckoning; 'and some of them are foremost in good deeds' - these are the ones who will enter Paradise without any reckoning or punishment. 'By the permission of Allah Almighty' - that is, all of them will enter Paradise by the permission of Allah Almighty, without any distinction between them. (Allah Almighty says:) 'Therein they will be adorned with bracelets of gold and pearls, and their garments therein will be of silk. And they will say: "All praise belongs to Allah Almighty, who has removed grief from us. Indeed, our Lord is Oft-Forgiving, Most Appreciative, who has settled us out of His bounty in the Abode of (eternal) Stay, where no fatigue or hardship will touch us." And for those who disbelieved there will be the fire of Hell; it will not be decreed for them that they should die, nor will its punishment be lightened for them. Thus do We recompense every ungrateful disbeliever.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Salamah bin Rawh, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy) and a group declared da'if (weak). The remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
