Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11227

وَعَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ أُولَئِكَ مُبَرَّؤُونَ مِمَّا يَقُولُونَ وَذَلِكَ أَنَّهُمْ مَا قَالَ الْكَافِرُ مِنْ كَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ فَهِيَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، وَمَا قَالَ الْمُؤْمِنُ مِنْ كَلِمَةٍ خَبِيثَةٍ فَهِيَ لِلْكَافِرِينَ ، بَرِيءٌ كُلٌّ مِمَّا لَيْسَ لَهُ بِحَقٍّ مِنَ الْكَلَامِ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ ، وَلَهُ إِسْنَادٌ آخَرُ ضَعِيفٌ .
Mujahid, regarding this statement of Allah Almighty, said: (Allah Almighty says:) "Those people are innocent of what they (the others) say." Mujahid said: The reason for this is that whatever good word a disbeliever says will be specific to the believers, and whatever evil word a believer says will be specific to the disbelievers; and each of them will be counted as free of whatever speech is not rightfully his.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy); it also has another chain that is da'if (weak).
