عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ وَالَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ الْمُحْصَنَاتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَأْتُوا بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَاءَ فَاجْلِدُوهُمْ ثَمَانِينَ جَلْدَةً وَلَا تَقْبَلُوا لَهُمْ شَهَادَةً أَبَدًا قَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ وَهُوَ سَيِّدُ الْأَنْصَارِ : أَهَكَذَا أُنْزِلَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ ، أَلَا تَسْمَعُونَ مَا يَقُولُ سَيِّدُكُمْ ؟ " . قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، لَا تَلُمْهُ ، فَإِنَّهُ رَجُلٌ غَيُورٌ ، وَاللَّهِ مَا تَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً قَطُّ إِلَّا بِكْرًا ، وَلَا طَلَّقَ امْرَأَةً لَهُ قَطُّ فَاجْتَرَأَ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا عَلَى أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَهَا مِنْ شِدَّةِ غَيْرَتِهِ . فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ : وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ أَنَّهَا حَقٌّ ، وَأَنَّهَا مِنَ اللَّهِ ، وَلَكِنِّي تَعَجَّبْتُ أَنْ لَوْ وَجَدْتُ لَكَاعًا قَدْ تَفَخَّذَهَا رَجُلٌ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِي أَنْ أُهَيِّجَهُ وَلَا أُحَرِّكَهُ حَتَّى آتِيَ بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَاءَ ، وَاللَّهِ لَا آتِي بِهِمْ حَتَّى يَقْضِيَ حَاجَتَهُ . فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَفِيهِ عَبَّادُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ وَقَدْ وُثِّقَ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: When this verse was revealed: "Those who accuse chaste women and then do not bring four witnesses, flog them with eighty lashes and never accept their testimony," Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him), the chief of the Ansar, said: "O Messenger of Allah! Is this how it was revealed?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O company of the Ansar, do you not hear what your chief is saying?" They said: "O Messenger of Allah! Do not blame him, for he is a man of intense jealousy (ghayur). By Allah! He has never married any woman except a virgin, and whenever he divorced one of his wives, none of us dared to marry her because of the intensity of his jealousy." Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! By Allah! I know that this is the truth and that it is from Allah, but I was amazed that, if I were to find a man who had reached my wife, I would not be allowed to disturb him or move him until I first brought four witnesses. By Allah! By the time I bring the witnesses, he will have finished his business." After this the narrator mentioned the complete narration.
