وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : - إِنْ كَانَ قَالَهُ - : " لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَأَمَرْتُهُمْ بِالسِّوَاكِ مَعَ الْوُضُوءِ " . قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ : لَقَدْ كُنْتُ أَسْتَنُّ قَبْلَ أَنْ أَنَامَ وَبَعْدَمَا أَسْتَيْقِظُ ، وَقَبْلَ أَنْ آكُلَ وَبَعْدَ مَا آكُلُ - حِينَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ مَا قَالَ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), if indeed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said it: "Were it not that I feared I would burden my Ummah with hardship, I would have commanded them to use the siwak with every ablution." Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I use the siwak before sleeping, after waking, before eating, or after eating, ever since I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say this.
