سُورَةُ الْحَجِّ قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى : يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّ زَلْزَلَةَ السَّاعَةِ شَيْءٌ عَظِيمٌ
Surah al-Hajj, and the words of Allah the Exalted: "O people, fear your Lord; indeed the convulsion of the Hour is a tremendous thing"

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : تَلَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ عِنْدَهُ : يَاأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّ زَلْزَلَةَ السَّاعَةِ شَيْءٌ عَظِيمٌ إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ ، فَقَالَ : " هَلْ تَدْرُونَ أَيُّ يَوْمٍ ذَلِكَ ؟ " . قَالُوا : اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، قَالَ : " ذَلِكَ يَوْمُ يَقُولُ اللَّهُ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - : يَا آدَمُ قُمْ فَابْعَثْ بَعْثًا إِلَى النَّارِ ، فَيَقُولُ : وَمَا بَعْثُ النَّارِ ؟ فَيَقُولُ : مِنْ كُلِّ أَلْفٍ تِسْعُمِائَةٍ وَتِسْعَةٌ وَتِسْعُونَ إِلَى النَّارِ وَوَاحِدٌ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ " . فَشَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " [ إِنِّي لَأَرْجُوا أَنْ تَكُونُوا رُبْعَ أَهْلَ الْجَنَّةِ ] إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ تَكُونُوا شَطْرَ الْجَنَّةِ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " اعْمَلُوا وَأَبْشِرُوا ، فَإِنَّكُمْ بَيْنَ خَلِيقَتَيْنِ لَمْ يَكُونَا مَعَ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا كَثَّرَتَاهُ يَأْجُوجَ وَمَأْجُوجَ ، وَإِنَّمَا أَنْتُمْ فِي الْأُمَمِ كَالشَّامَةِ فِي جَنْبِ الْبَعِيرِ ، أَوْ كَالرَّقْمَةِ فِي ذِرَاعِ الدَّابَّةِ ، أُمَّتِي جُزْءٌ مِنْ أَلْفِ جُزْءٍ " . قُلْتُ : فِي الصَّحِيحِ بَعْضُهُ . رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ هِلَالِ بْنِ خَبَّابٍ وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse while his Companions were with him: (Allah Almighty says:) "O people! Fear your Lord. Indeed, the quake of the Hour is a tremendous thing." He recited it to the end of the verse, then said: "Do you know what kind of day that will be?" The people said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It will be the day when Allah Almighty will say: 'O Adam, rise and send a party to Hell.' He will say: 'How many people are to be sent to Hell?' The Lord will say: 'Out of every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine will go to Hell and one will go to Paradise.'" (The narrator said:) This weighed heavily on the people. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I hope that you will be a quarter of the people of Paradise, and I hope that you will be half of the people of Paradise." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Act, and receive the glad tidings that you are between two kinds of creation which make numerous whomever they are counted with: they are Ya'juj and Ma'juj. Among the other nations, your example is like a spot of a different colour on the side of a camel, or like a mark on the foreleg of an animal. My Ummah is one part out of a thousand parts." (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: Part of it is mentioned in the Sahih.
