Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11180

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: (Allah Almighty says:) "And We have not sent you except as a mercy to all the worlds." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Whoever follows him, he is a mercy for him in this world and the Hereafter; and whoever does not follow him will be kept safe from what the other nations were afflicted with, namely being swallowed by the earth, being transformed, and being pelted with stones.
Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Ayyub bin Suwayd, who is extremely da'if (weak); Ibn Hibban declared him trustworthy with certain conditions concerning those who narrate from him, and he said: He makes many mistakes. The narrator al-Mas'udi also suffered confusion (ikhtilat).
