Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11124

Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whenever a servant intends to be raised by one degree in this world, and he is then raised, Allah Almighty lowers him in the Hereafter by a greater degree than that." Then he recited this verse: "And the Hereafter is greater in degrees and greater in excellence."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abu al-Sabbah Abd al-Ghafur, who is matruk (abandoned).
