عَنْ زِرٍّ قَالَ : كُنْتُ آخُذُ عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فِي الْمُصْحَفِ فَأَتَى عَلَى هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِكُمْ بَنِينَ وَحَفَدَةً قَالَ لِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : أَتَدْرِي مَا الْحَفَدَةُ ؟ قُلْتُ : حَشَمُ الرَّجُلِ ، قَالَ : لَا ، هُمُ الْأُخْتَانِ
Zirr states: I used to recite from the mushaf to Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him). When he came to this verse: "And He has made for you, from your wives, sons and grandchildren (hafadah)," Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: Do you know what is meant by hafadah? I said: A man's close attendants. He said: No! They are the in-laws (akhtan).
