وَعَنْ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ يَحْيَى صَاحِبِ الْعَصَبِ قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ أَبَا غَالِبٍ عَنْ قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى : رُبَمَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْ كَانُوا مُسْلِمِينَ فَقَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو أُمَامَةَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " نَزَلَتْ فِي الْخَوَارِجِ حِينَ رَأَوْا تَجَاوُزَ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَعَنِ الْأَئِمَّةِ وَالْجَمَاعَةِ ، قَالُوا : يَا لَيْتَنَا كُنَّا مُسْلِمِينَ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَزَكَرِيَّا وَالرَّاوِي عَنْهُ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُمَا .
Zakariyya bin Yahya states: I asked Abu Ghalib about this saying of Allah Almighty (Allah Almighty says:) "Those who disbelieved will wish that they had been Muslims." Abu Ghalib said: Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to me that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This verse was revealed about the Khawarij: when they see that Allah Almighty has pardoned the Muslims, their rulers and their community, they will say: 'Would that we too had been Muslims.'"
