عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ : الَّتِي تُسَمُّونَ سُورَةَ التَّوْبَةِ هِيَ سُورَةُ الْعَذَابِ ، وَمَا يَقْرَؤُونَ مِنْهَا مِمَّا كُنَّا نَقْرَأُ إِلَّا رُبْعَهَا . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: What you call Surah al-Tawbah is the Surah of Punishment, and the portion of it that is now recited is a quarter of what we used to recite of it (i.e. the remaining verses were abrogated).
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
