Book of Tafsir
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى : وَأَنْذِرْ بِهِ الَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ أَنْ يُحْشَرُوا إِلَى رَبِّهِمْ ، وَقَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى : وَلَا تَطْرُدِ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُمْ .
The saying of Allah the Exalted: "And warn by it those who fear that they will be gathered before their Lord", and: "And do not send away those who call upon their Lord"

عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ : مَرَّ الْمَلَأُ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَعِنْدَهُ خَبَّابٌ وَصُهَيْبٌ وَبِلَالٌ وَعَمَّارٌ ، فَقَالُوا : يَا مُحَمَّدُ ، أَرَضِيتَ بِهَؤُلَاءِ ؟ فَنَزَلَ فِيهِمُ الْقُرْآنُ وَأَنْذِرْ بِهِ الَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ أَنْ يُحْشَرُوا إِلَى رَبِّهِمْ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ : ( وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِالظَّالِمِينَ ) . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : فَقَالُوا : يَا مُحَمَّدُ ، أَهَؤُلَاءِ مَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ بَيْنِنَا ؟ لَوْ طَرَدْتَ هَؤُلَاءِ لَاتَّبَعْنَاكَ . فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ وَلَا تَطْرُدِ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُمْ بِالْغَدَاةِ وَالْعَشِيِّ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ : ( أَلَيْسَ اللَّهُ بِأَعْلَمَ بِالشَّاكِرِينَ ) . وَرِجَالُ أَحْمَدَ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ كُرْدُوسٍ وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Some people from Quraysh passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) were with him. Those idolaters said: "O Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), are you pleased with these people?" So this verse was revealed concerning them: "And warn by it those who fear that they will be gathered before their Lord." The verse continues up to: "Allah Almighty knows best about the wrongdoers."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it; however, al-Tabarani recorded these words: They said: "O Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), are these the ones among us upon whom Allah Almighty has bestowed His favour? If you drive these people away, we will follow you." So Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "Do not drive away those who worship their Lord morning and evening." The verse continues up to: "Is not Allah Almighty most knowing of those who are grateful?" The narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih, except for the narrator Kurdus, whose case is different, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
