Book of Tafsir
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى : فَلَمَّا نَسُوا مَا ذُكِّرُوا بِهِ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَبْوَابَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ .
The saying of Allah the Exalted: "So when they forgot that by which they had been reminded, We opened to them the doors of every thing"

عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " إِذَا رَأَيْتَ اللَّهَ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - يُعْطِي الْعَبْدَ فِي الدُّنْيَا عَلَى مَعَاصِيهِ مَا يُحِبُّ فَإِنَّمَا هُوَ اسْتِدْرَاجٌ " . ثُمَّ تَلَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَلَمَّا نَسُوا مَا ذُكِّرُوا بِهِ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَبْوَابَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَتَّى إِذَا فَرِحُوا بِمَا أُوتُوا أَخَذْنَاهُمْ بَغْتَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ مُبْلِسُونَ . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَزَادَ فَقُطِعَ دَابِرُ الْقَوْمِ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ .
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When you see Allah Almighty giving a servant in this world what he loves despite his sins, then that is istidraj (being drawn on gradually to ruin)." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "So when they forgot what they had been reminded of, We opened to them the gates of everything, until, when they rejoiced in what they had been given, We seized them suddenly, and then they were in despair."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it, and he recorded these additional words: (Allah Almighty says:) "So the root of the people who did wrong was cut off, and all praise belongs to Allah Almighty, the Lord of all the worlds."
