Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 10995

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates concerning this saying of Allah Almighty: This verse is to be read as "fa-innahum la yukdhibunaka," that is, it is to be read without the doubling; they used to read it this way. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: That is, they do not have the power to make the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) not be a Messenger, nor do they have the power to make the Qur'an not be the Qur'an. But as for their denying you (ikdhab) with their tongues, they do deny you (takdhib); that is ikdhab, and this is takdhib.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Bishr bin Umarah, and he is da'if (weak).
