Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: Sayyiduna Damrah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) set out from his house to migrate. He said to his family: "Put me on a mount and take me out of the land of the polytheists, so that I may go to the Messenger of Allah." He passed away before reaching the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and this revelation came down about it: "And whoever sets out from his house migrating to Allah and His Messenger, and then death overtakes him." The verse continues up to: "And Allah Almighty is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful."
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
