Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 10933

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: This verse was recited before Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): "Every time their skins are burnt through, We will replace them with other skins." The narrator said: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Recite this verse again." The reciter recited it before him again. Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I have its explanation, in which it is stated that their skin will be replaced a hundred times in every hour." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I too heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say it like this."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Nafi', the freed slave of Yusuf al-Sulami, who is matruk (abandoned).
