Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 10901

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding this statement of Allah Almighty, (Allah Almighty says:) "Those who are marked." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says: "It means that they were marked. On the day of the Battle of Badr, the distinguishing mark of the angels was black turbans, and on the day of the Battle of Uhud their distinguishing mark was red turbans."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Quddus bin Habib, who is matruk (abandoned).
