قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى : لَنْ تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتَّى تُنْفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ .
The saying of Allah the Exalted: "Never will you attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love"

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ : حَضَرَتْنِي هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ : لَنْ تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتَّى تُنْفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ ، فَذَكَرْتُ مَا أَعْطَانِي اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَلَمْ أَجِدْ شَيْئًا أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ مُرْجَانَةَ ، جَارِيَةٍ لِي رُومِيَّةٍ . فَقَالَ : هِيَ حُرَّةٌ لِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ ، فَلَوْ أَنِّي أَعُودُ فِي شَيْءٍ جَعَلْتُهُ لِلَّهِ لَنَكَحْتُهَا .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَفِيهِ مَنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: This verse came to my mind: "You will never attain righteousness until you spend from that which you love." Then I reviewed the things that Allah Almighty has given me, and I found nothing dearer to me than my Roman slave-girl named Marjanah. So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: She is free for the sake of Allah's pleasure. (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says:) Were I to take back anything I had given for the sake of Allah Almighty, I would have married this slave-girl.
