Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Two men of the Ansar recited a surah which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had taught them, and they used to recite it. One night the two of them stood intending to recite it while they were offering voluntary prayer, but they were not able to recite any part of that surah. The next morning the two of them came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned this situation to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That (portion) is among what has been abrogated, or has been caused to be forgotten, so put it out of your minds."
Al-Zuhri used to recite this verse thus: "Whatever verse We abrogate or cause to be forgotten (nunsiha)", that is, he recited it with a dammah on the nun and without doubling.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Sulayman bin Arqam, who is matruk (abandoned).
