قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى : وَقَالُوا لَنْ تَمَسَّنَا النَّارُ إِلَّا أَيَّامًا مَعْدُودَةً .
The saying of Allah the Exalted: "And they say: Never will the Fire touch us except for a few days"

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ يَهُودَ كَانُوا يَقُولُونَ : هَذِهِ الدُّنْيَا سَبْعَةُ آلَافِ سَنَةٍ ، وَإِنَّمَا نُعَذَّبُ لِكُلِّ سَنَةٍ يَوْمًا فِي النَّارِ ، وَإِنَّمَا هِيَ سَبْعَةُ أَيَّامٍ مَعْدُودَاتٍ . فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : وَقَالُوا لَنْ تَمَسَّنَا النَّارُ إِلَّا أَيَّامًا مَعْدُودَةً ، إِلَى قَوْلِهِ : فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Jews used to say that this world lasts seven thousand years, and for every thousand years we will be punished with one day in the Fire, so it will be seven counted days. So Allah Almighty revealed this verse concerning it: "And they say: The Fire will not touch us except for a number of days." The verse continues up to: "They will abide in it forever."
