Sayyiduna Uwaymir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: My sister Mulaykah and a woman of our family named Umm Afif bint Masruh were both wives of Hamal bin al-Nabighah. Umm Afif struck Mulaykah with a piece of wood that was in her house. Mulaykah was pregnant; as a result she was killed, and there was also a child in her womb (it too was killed). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled that blood money be paid for her (the woman), and for the child in her womb that a slave or a boy (that is, a slave's child or a slave-woman) be paid. The woman's brother, al-Ala' bin Masruh, said: "O Messenger of Allah, is compensation to be paid for one (a child) who neither ate anything nor drank anything, nor spoke nor wailed? Blood like this goes unavenged." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is this rhymed speech, like the rhymed speech of the Age of Ignorance?"
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Sulayman bin Masmul, who is da'if (weak).
